the residence of the forementioned birds to our balcony (previously thought to be weaver birds but are actually sunbirds, apparently) has brought about quite a bit of action to our otherwise boring lives. the little yellow bird have been officially proclaimed as my mothers adopted daughter/son and thereby, my adopted half sister/brother, and my mother has gungho-ly taken up the responsibility of ensuring her grandchildrens arrival.

not only have they claimed rights to a section of my living room leading to the balcony, proudly named "bird protection area", they have also suspended night time television, in fear that the darling birds will be scared off. which would prove an issue seeing how they're awfully bird-brained and cannot find their way back to incubate the eggs at night. my mother has also taken up the job of protecting the eggs from nasty carnivorous predators, stationing herself on the sofa just in case one of those larger yellow birds attempts to steal them again.

oh eggs. we're having 3 potential grandchildren, to my mothers excitement, after she stuck a finger into their nest. as enlightened by a neighbour whose porch is visited by these birds yearly, females build the nest whilst the males, well, sit by and watch guard. incubation period is 21 days.

for the bio freaks enjoyment, their 20 seconds of fame.

today was the visit to yakult and sunshine bakeries. :D

i wandered around rj for a while trying to find out where to go, until zan called to enlighten me and kim. first (as usual) was a briefing about the place/ functions of bacteria blah and then we boarded the bus to senoko.

we went to yakult first. (apparently the place hasnt changed since someones kindergarten days). the tour guides (one of which was educated in japan. cue zan!) spoke for a while about the bacteria and the packaging and stuff, before the other one went off tangent to talk about singapore population size, his 2 sons, why we needed to procreate more, the conspiracy behind The Healthier Choice label.

3 facts of yakult i bet you didnt know!
1. they sell 25 million bottles world wide a day x at least 10 billion bacteria per bottle = a lot of bacteria! an empire based on a single bacteria. wahhhh.
2. yakult also sells chemo drugs, diarrhea drugs, facial products, yoghurt (supposedly Best in Japan and only sold in Singapore on Yakult Fair held annually at Isetan) and instant noodles! (made from green algae) but all only in japan.
3. singapore's yakult is the only one with different flavours. and standard size for yakult is 65ml, but ours, chinas, taiwans and hong kongs is 100 ml!

after the factory tour and photos and all, we boarded the bus which took us across the street to sunshine bakeries. we had more presentations and factory viewing and goodie bags of sunshine bread :D

3 facts about sunshine bakeries i bet you didnt know!
1. they bake 6000 loaves of bread every 8 hours and its a 24 hour factory so we do eat a lot of bread!
2. they supply mos burgers buns! although macs and kfc (?) buy theirs from harvey foods
3. whatever bread that isnt perfect enough to be sold they make into animal feed and sell them to the farmers. one farmer requested for cream rolls for his fish because apparently fishes can tell different tastes!

yup it was a pretty fun fieldtrip :D totally worth the "free day"

ITS ONLY BEEN 2 DAYS AND ALR THE SONG IS STUCK IN MY HEAD DDDD:

so my chinese new year eve was less sober than the previous post suggested, and much more exciting.

we woke up real early at 7am, and headed over to a friends house at sentosa cove. once we got there, we boarded the yacht and headed out to sea. as far as boats go, speedboats are still the best :D although the luxury of the yacht was a tad sinful.

for the day, we hung out on the yacht. not much to do in the middle of the sea, although i did try my best to prep for it the day before. too bad my ipod died on me and newsweek proved too dizzifying to read. fishing terribly failed on me as well, despite the wonderous tiger prawns we used to bait and the brand new fishing rods. we did get a ride on the small speedboat attached though, but the PCG was around so we couldnt really speed.

lunch on the yacht was zomgawesome. huge grilled prawns, steak and crayfish. the prawns were to die for.

pictures!

in front of forementioned condo. i think my mom was very pretty :D

with my dad and my sea-sickness-preventing green apple.

it was windy!

good at posing, not so good at fishing.

speedboat!

the seas of singapore are extremely sad compared to those of wales. surrounded by huge tankers and petrol companies and chemical plants, quit a bit of imagination is required to pretend we're in an exotic holiday location. and the water was a bit gross so i gave up on the thought of swimming (my dad went in and got scrapped on some fish or another. cue first air box) but it was still, a pretty good trip.

dinner was at the yacht club, one15. but like i mentioned, it paled in comparison to lunch.

Monday, January 26, 2009

on the eve of chinese new year, i found myself on the docks of the sentosa cove harbour. alone before the floating yachts, i started to walk.

one step ahead of the other. my new flats clicked rhythmically and distinctly on the boarded walkway. the sea breeze was slight in the enclosed area, but it swirled around me, lifting the edges of my black shawl and the bottom of my new dress. it was a precious kind of silence. sacred if you will. away from the noise of the restaurant, from the loud cheers customary during yushen, the alcohol, cigarettes and screams of four year old children.

as i turned a corner, the direction of the wind changed. i approached the end of the walkway, half expecting a big, flamboyant sign declaring the sea. yet there was nothing to greet me except a poorly constructed barrier, the sounds of the waves crashing against the rocks below, and the lights of the ships in the open sea.

i stood for a while, at the edge, listening and watching as each wave broke against the rocks and swirled away. wouldnt it be nice, to hear this sound every day? i looked across to the half constructed condo on the other curve, the buildings my father had pointed out excitedly to us earlier in the day and wondered what living like here would be like. then i dimissed the thought of relieving this moment again, for the hundred of occupants this time next year would make it impossible.

my mind drifted again to the my favourite game. in the peace of the night, what would it be like if i had climbed over the loose chains, lowered myself down the rocks and let the waves take me? how would that feel? like always, i had half a mind to try, but like always the single thread that binds me to reality pulled me away.

i turned and slowly, but surely, made my way back.

some people would classify such ideas as suicidal. or at least signs of depression. but in that clear night, with no one else but me on that harbour, there really wasnt anything to upset me. its mainly curiousity i guess. a kind of experiment that ill never undertake, for, like always, i convince myself theres much more to live for.

the trip back was faster than i had expected. as i neared the clubhouse that the dinner party was held, i paused for a moment, pondering dessert. then i remembered the quarrelling couple, whose sharp jabs rippled throughout my day, the rich, smooth operator, who had spent the whole day hitting on a girl and was pretty close to succeeding, the three four year old kids who screamed, cried, ran, fought, the man with a family whom i used to know as a child, but has changed into a stranger who had nothing but a younger girlfriend, cigarettes and alcohol for company, the smell of the second-hand smoke and whiskey permeating my hair.

and i walked away again, bent on reaching the other end of the cove.

some people say that the newer seasons of greys anatomy aint so much worth watching. but the latest few episodes showed that they have yet to lose their touch.

i was crying buckets.

go watch it, episode 13, although the story arch starts from episode 11.

the long waited kiss in pi lit mit though, is a letdown. and the annoying voice of guigui is unbearable. but aaron yan? mmm...

so ive alr fulfilled my one post a day quota, but i have things to discuss that are of a different topic to the previous one, thereby explaining the seperate post.

so its been about 2 weeks into this coed environment thing. and i must say personally that we technically arent coed yet, since the guys largely stay to their side/friends and we largely stay to ours. ive not met a single male counterpart i dont alr know. and i think i speak for most of us who simply arent trying. after all we still have an abundance of time.

of course there are people mixing around though. or rather i should say. its not even hookup-week yet and the bgrs are already beginning! hookup-week is annies description of orientation, and bgr info comes from chong. chloe gasps "SO LOOSE D:"

but like i said, most of us arent trying. on both sides.

yet time has passed when we can still pretend we're an exclusive female bunch. there are differences that flood us in all directions. the deep (very loud D:) "booming" tones of bass during the national anthem, the slightly shorter path to the mrt through raja block, the senior frisbee dudes showing off their grace in the amphitheatre, the general whiteness everywhere and of course, the slightly mean jabs about the male species.

speaking of the taunts, quite a few people have been commenting on them (from both sides). jx made a particularly strong stand. i do agree the guys need not put up with them and that in recent days, the jabs have been pretty increasingly frequent and tiresome. and childish. im all for a little competiveness, but i think the guys acknowledge our abilities (its not like they all think we are inefficient and stupid or something) and even if they dont just yet, there are plenty of opportunities to show them how we do it later on. like pw. but theres always a line between teasing and disrespectful. i still rmb the talk we had in rg at the end of year. that one was terrible. trying to make it sound like all men are out to rape us is not the right way to make us look forward to jc. as much as the school (both rg and rj) are trying to help us "[get] ready for a coed envirnoment", i certainly agree that there are better ways to go about doing it. i should know. ive had 10 years of all girls education!

but i must defend our gender as well. we are not the only side with discrimination. the bias is both ways. how many guys actually put down a yes in "i think the girls i will meet in rj are caring and considerate" in the horribly sexist survey? we've had our fair share of stereotypes. and not all of us view our ri counterparts in a purely negative fashion. we are more intelligent than that. in a sense it is like issuing a challenge, one that we dearly hope the guys will win in. (after all, we as females only stand to gain) at least, i have enough faith in our fellow rafflesians to believe that they will.

on another related point, feminism. for one, feminism is for equality, not for females to overthrow all the males or rule over the world. it is certainly not at all related to gender-based criticism. instead, it has bigger issues like female fetal abortion, equal education and job opportunities/rights/wages, protection against domestic violence etc. not too applicable in a coed higher learning institution in a first world country. im not an expert on this topic (fik is) and i will not pretend i know enough about feminism to expound upon its qualities and methods of manifestation, but i do know enough to tell you point blank that not all rgs girls are feminists and that feminism is not taught/instilled in rgs.

i will not hurry to judge the rj environment just yet, because a lot of it has to do with building trust, which takes time. but the right way to prepare us all for the year ahead, i believe, is not putting down, but building up. show us the good sides. warn us but dont slander, clarify but dont add on to the stereotypes.

after all, both sides has an ocean of misunderstandings to cross.

i apologise for the delays :/ school has been pretty boring lately and most of my time is spent wandering around singapore/bishan because of the inanely long breaks between talks and cca trials. so yeah, not much to blog about.

speaking of ccas, i dunno D: what to do. interact interview was on tuesday, and im not sure it was long enough/ substantial enough for me to have made an impression. there are so many people applying for interact! 300 people for 70 spaces. plus after that i found out that i may or may not need to join interact in order to get a good project after all, since i have a pending opportunity on hold.

art was on wed. art was fun, albeit a bit intimidating, although lisa kindly informed me that the pieces we saw were a level pieces and thus made to perfection, as opposed the normal art club work. but we did do a few sketches and i scribbled an impression of cherise, my temp partner from cedar/rosyth. im looking forward to the next session of silk-screening (i think?), which i have no idea whats about. before art however, qiying and i crashed in at graces house and played uno stacko (ULTIMATE GAME OF ALL TIME. GIVE ME A SET AND ILL ENTERTAIN MYSELF FOR EONS.), cluedo and halo 2. halo was immensely funny, seeing how we were all halo idiots, cept for grace. qiying kept shooting the wall and throwing grenades at random places. and i kept dying because grace keeps killing me! DDDDD: the evil side of grace emerges. and graces mom made us lunch. i think graces mom is so cute. and we saw adorable baby grace photos :D

today was the first day i didnt have cca trials (mainly because 1. i didnt sign up for many and 2. street dance didnt sound appealing) so i went home really early (WHY DID I GO FOR GC WHEN I DONT HAVE A GC/ DONT HAVE ANYTHING ELSE?) instead of sleeping my day away, i decided to prove theo wrong and actually be productive! so i tried out the chocolate chips-walnut mandelbrot recipe ive always wanted to do, went to the golf range/spent quality time with my dad (its been eons since i last touched the clubs). napped and cooked dinner :D why does it seem like i never do these things when i actually have time (aka during the holidays?)

the next few days will be relatively free. am looking forward to cny :D exciting excursion ahead!

(speaking of excursions the econs one sounds very fun we're going to yakult and sunshine bakeries!)

anddd its monday.

took the bus today and got to school at 7am I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS WHY. im sorry i hate being early. and 40mins is very early. i mean, i like being on time, but early is my sisters thing.

school was ok. omg the geog teacher is SUPER KAWAIIDESU :D:D:D i was totally hyperventilating and freaking xinmin out xD he almost persuade me to take geog too, but then i reminded myself not to be stupid xD not that i have anything against geog takers, but its not my thing.

after like 3 hours of school, it was over. what a waste of time! so i decided to bring xinmin and jeanette to j8 to buy my cny dresses with me :D along the way, with grace, we stopped by the hullet memorial library, because it is uber cool and infinitely better than rg's. yeah we were pretty extra but who cares. after the merger whatever is ris and rjs right? so ri is technically our school grounds too xD

then, like every proper girl worth her salt with a lot of free time, i went shopping :D dress shopping is infinitely* fun because you just pop them over your head and some of them are totally horrid and strange and make you look fat. but i managed to get 2 nice ones thanks to the help of yutian, jeanette, jacq (who basically stands there and laughs when the dresses turn out horrid) and xinmin (camerawoman yoz). which was more then i intended to buy but its ok they were so nice! and i bought a skirt as well xD rg girls were swarming the place i wonder where the dudes hang out on super free days? o.o

dinner out later. i plan to wear my new dress :D

*infinitely is totally my new favourite word.

-stretches- and gets right down to work. im lagging behind! i know xD

on the first day of school (aka thursday):

i was late. i swear i dont do it on purpose, but it seems like im always late on the first day of schools. even if its a faux one. anws, i found out at 7.30 that we were supposed to report at 7.40, rushed out of the house (without breakfast D:), met with the morning pie jam, took a wrong turn to toa payoh (my dad rawr) and arrived at 7.45 ish, ran into a few seniors whom laughed and then pointed me to the right direction and then wiggled my way in richard 4's row in the mph.

other than that school was relatively uneventful, i had the intro to gp (nice teacher. i hope i get her!) and econs (i know i'll get her, my life is always like that) and then spent 1 hour queuing up in the bookshop to get my badge/pe attire. rijc badge =smaller and irregular shaped D:. rj pe attire= SUPER TRANSLUCENT TOP DDDDDDDD: + fbts = scandalous D:

after that, work from 5 -11. needless to say, i was very tired. not yet accustommed to waking up that early xD

on second day of school (aka friday):

woke up EARLY this time and trooped my way over to litings house. uphill, downhill, uphill = morning exercise O: took a ride from her and arrived at rijc at 7.20. everyone is at the canteen in the mornings. WHY. so uncreative i must find another hideout xD

after assembly we had intro to math (ummmm. yet to be determined if the teacher is a good one or not, although he reminds me of a character in The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman) and then pw. now this teacher was a force to be reckoned with. and also happens to be my sisters best friends mom, who is exceedingly nice to my sis. anws, she detained around 20 ri boys for being noisy and made one (sarahs friend) stand through the lecture. (you could almost hear the collective cursing of the ri group xD) But she gave me the impression of a very good teacher. like the mrs mohd and ms may tan kind, so im looking forward to her. :D

after that i went over to novena for lunch at globetrotters. my last lunch there D: the restaurants closing today ): (meaning sunday) ran into abi, who brought peiling, liting, jingles and jan there. worked from 12-3 then had a 2 hour break, where i went down to the park and fell asleep on the park bench. yeah i know i was that tired. D: revived myself at 5 in time for my next shift and then worked all the way till 11. after that, i promptly collapsed in the car and slept till we got home.

on saturday:

and so i slept till 11.30. then i worked from 1 to 11. sarah and i were reduced to zombies at the end. but the idea of it being my second last shift was rather motivating. ahhhh! i will miss the place! and it makes me very sad everytime a kid comes and goes " ive been here for a LOOOONNGGGG time and it is my favouritest place in the world!" and also because sarah was there and that means we get to kope a lot of food xD

saw mrs j at gloebetrotters. she tramautised sarah for a moment ahahhaa. but her baby is kawaiidesu.

sadly, it was my moms birthday ): so i missed that. so HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOMMY :D (:3>

as well as to theodore tan but he doesnt get a funky smiley xD

on sunday:

today! got up at 11.30 again. my moms noisy insane 5 year old students didnt manage to wake me at all. and im a infinitely light sleeper. work later from 3 to closing. last shift! DDDD: must bring camera to camwhore.

on a sidenote, a weaver bird has established his nest right outside my balcony, like 5 cm away from the window at my feet. so we get to watch it build xD sadly, as a fellow female, i dont think his nest will be attracting any girls, so he'll probably have to tear it down after all his hard work and we'll probably not see any baby birds. but my sis is sufficiently excited about it and have been feeding it newspaper and cotton wool. and my mom proudly announces that we'll have good fortune in the coming year because "喜鹊报春" even as i insist weaver birds are not 喜鹊s

but it would be infinitely cool to have baby birds right outside your window right? the wonders of living so close to bukit timah hill.

our bedroom attracted a giant moth the other day as well and it slept in with us for a night before i refused to let it stay anymore and chased it out with a long stick. anyone who knows me well enough understands my immense irrational fear of large flying things. airplaces not included.

wont go home without you by maroon 5 is up, and it is loud.

open house at rj today. it was very windy there were lot flying skirts O:

ok random. basically i signed up for like 4 ccas. yes interact is one of them, but then again almost everyone signed up for interact. O: other than that i think chinese drama is the most interesting, followed by art club (haha that one nto too hopeful lah, the pieces they displayed very impressive) and then entrepreneurs club, but that ones just for fun xD

and everyones saying the person who called you up for reqs is your ogl. mines paul-dunno-what! (yes the response i normally get is TERN?!) which sadly is neither the same as annie, nor grace, but apparently same as jasselyn. HMMM.

and rj is super big zomg the humans and sci blocks are really very far! (claire li so far how to run! get there come back recess over alr!)

after open house, a huge group of us went to globetrotters for lunch. 15 people = very easy to lose/get lost. but it was a great lunch! 14 of us were 411ers then there was one extra annie xD but i love my class muchily. the past few days have been immensely fast, packed and tiring. but i guess that for the better, seeing how school starts in two days. AHHHHH JC DDDD:

on friday:

met up with ram at the clementi mrt. we headed down to pasir ris together (long journeys like that is often better with a companion) where we met liting and cheryl with the rj netballers on 403. it seems like im bumping into rafflesians wherever i go, from novena to far east to ecp to pasir ris. WHY.

anws the conversation went something like this.

me: aye! cheryl!
cheryl: oh hi! you again!
me: haha cheryl are you aching?
cheryl: yeah!
me: omg me too! this morning i had to roll out of bed!
cheryl: huh. oh you mean from yesterday? no lah i meant from training today. yesterday was just tiring.
me: D:

netballers are scary. cheryl was the fastest rider too ):

ram and i were the first few to get there, so we joined in the bridge, which later expanded to heart attack so that more people could play. (and joho goes: BUT WE ARE J1s!) we are ridiculous like that xD

(distraction: oh no i have a giant bruise on my knee how did i get that!)

then we were joined by a large group of people with food. yay food! after that we went to the sea. sentosa is the best beach by far. but we did manage to see hermit crabs xD then we went indoors for charades and taboo (with a twist!). macerena videos are on fb xD when short joined us, we went outside again to play captains ball, cept with tomatoes. yup. NOT PRETTY. NU-UH.

it was dark after we've ruined enough tomatoes, so we headed inside for dinner. we had a lot of food! plus erik made pretty, delicious cookies xD then we started on our third goodbye session= lots of emoing/reflections. but the mahjong after that totally lifted the mood again. xD i love mahjong its so addictive! we played to 3 (xinmin, fy and a few others played all night) before going to bed. if only i didnt have work on sat...

on saturday:

the nepalese word for water is "punny", apparently.

i managed to get 5 hours of sleep before my addled brain decided it was time for more mahjong. which kept me occupied till 1pm. before i left, joho decided to role-play a "get to know you" session in order to "prep us for jc". ridiculousness xD. it was quite fun though, we each got insane roles. like grace was bruce the macho, simple minded rubgy dsa. ahahaha! and then i got to play the nervous, bad at public speaking, student council head wannabe overachiever.

work started and 3 and lasted till 11. it was a crazy busy day for the restaurant and we ended the night with faux clubbing and lots of cleaning. 5 hours of sleep can bring you to strange places xD i will definitely miss working, even if my job is menial compared to the imba ones everyone one else got xD

on sunday:

woke up at 12.30, just in time for lunch and work. once again, work was insanely busy. like me and grace (my supervisor) to a party of 40 -50 people. DDDDDD: i was practically running! but it was slightly better because chong was there to help xD

on monday (aka today):

had an appointment with the doctor at 11.15, so i was at orchard superbly early. wandered around a little, before deciding to go to school early. its pretty strange walking around in the rg sch u, like that identity doesnt really fit anymore. comfortable, but strangely off. maybe that means i moved on D:

results were okay, but in general we did quite badly i think. hugs go out to everyone :)

after which, claire and i met zaki and theo at cathay to catch the 3pm ponyo show. ponyo is a very... obtruse show. but its ok its very cute :D although i think zaki was very annoyed at me for being so noisy. im sorry! i will be completely silent the next time!

indian dance at night. i realise i can only do certain steps on my right and not my left! DDDD: need to train myself to be better at this thing xD

AND IM FINALLY DONE. tmr sakae buffet with rabbers :)

geoff concluded our evening in 50 words. 50 words! geoff you do us too much injustice.

i will attempt to right that wrong.

for the record, i am sore. soreeeeee. from my butt to my thighs to my arms. rawr.

i arrived at ecp macs at 11.30am, then concluded it was a terrible idea considering we have both joho and zaki in our group. as expected, the first person i saw was geoff, but it turned out that nelson had been waiting inside macs from 11.45. we moved to a common table and proceeded to browse through nelsons newspaper. its been a long time since i looked through one xD

daniel joined us later on, followed by joho around 12.20. after discovering that zaki was still cabbing, we decided to eat first lest joho expires from hunger in typical joho way. unfortunately, it was a weekday at ecp, which meant half the stores werent open. in the end, out of what i think was a mixture of courage and hunger, we decided to try out the turkish kebab store. that, was interesting.

first came the soup, which we identified as made of beans, tomato, pickles and a spice geoff says is basil. and then the ice lemon tea. i had a beef roll, which was really good, but joho didnt manage to finish her mixed meat rice, which was.... interesting.

after lunch, we headed to marine bowl for bowling! nelson is a bowling genius zomg. zaki is also very good so either he secretly practised a lot like nelson, or hes just realllllyyyy lucky. joho complains bowling is not her sport. zaki, daniel and i were a team and we lost both games to nelson, joho and geoff.

after bowling, zaki managed to convince all of us to go upstairs to the arcade. then he managed to convince himself that punching a guy 9 times is worth $1.50. out of that 9 times, he managed to beat johos score (paid for by zaki) by 0 times. this is saying something. it was strangely transfixing to watch him. geoff had the best punch by far.

after that joho and i played some shooting game. i like shooting games they are fun! even though i totally suck at it, as demonstrated by nelson and daniel who went next. nelson is also a shooting games expert, but then again he LANs a lot i suppose. joho and i didnt even managed to get past part 1 of stage 1. the guys managed to last through to stage 2. D:

joho and i then decided to embark on the DDR machine. DDR is harder than it looks! after a while zaki decided i sucked too much and came to help xD but then when he tried to play his own game he lasted about 20 seconds. xD

by then it was 4, so we decided that we ought to join the apcg group. as expected, there were about 7 girls to about twice the number of guys. this is an interesting social phenomenon.

we rented our bikes with the final destination of changi in mind. at least i convinced myself that. thereby i embarked on the longest, most painful yet rewarding ride of my life. xD 20km from ecp to changi airport.

the group split about 10 mins after we started, so i hung mostly around yenyee, zaki and amanda chin. we were joined by theo on the way back. geoff, besides owning at punching, is also an extremely good rider O:

everyone survived the ride :D when the last of us returned, we headed off for dinner. food always incites debate. we settled on subway in the end, but yenyee and i had burger king instead xD by then it was around 9 pm.

so yup it was a pretty fun day. im missing the apcg people alr! whyyyy did we have to wait so long for a duraffes group outing huh. quite sad im working on sunday if not can go to charles house and see everyone again xD

tonights going to be another exhausting one, considering im not expecting much sleep. class chalet! but i have work from 3 to closing on sat, so i do hope i get some extent of rest xD

the bollywood dance lessons have revived now that the organiser is back in town. the first lesson i had in a long while went something like this.

teacher: ok. one, two, three, four. like this. one, two, three, four. yes very good.
me: -i think i can do this.-
teacher: ok. now four times. one , two, three, go!
-everyone scrambles around-
me: -its actually quite fun!-
teachers: good now with music
radio: ... ill give you pleasure...
me: OOOOOOO:?!?!

very very strange music choice, considering half the class is too young for any pleasure and the other half is my moms age so no i dont want to think about their pleasure.

-shudders-

thus my skirts have now been successfully made "normal-looking" again. although its a bit short for my liking, but after all the rumours of really short skirts in rj, i think ill be ok. xD plus my mom would never do the whole hemming process over.

apcg outing tmr, im looking forward to seeing everyone again :D

and im having a hair debate. up or down? up or down? i need to get it trimmed before sch starts, but erik says i should just do it myself. harhar.

6.50pm, 5 Jan:

RIJC sends out email to all incoming RP students, informing them that "The online signup for the January Induction Programme is now opened". due date: 11th Jan

10.30pm, 5 Jan:

yuda! says:
hey have you done your electives?
joou says:
nope. how many are we supposed to do?
yuda! says:
go do! apparently its being filled up

OOOOOO: joou runs off to complete her electives, whilst frantically finding out fellow RPers electives so she can coordinate.

sometimes i think the only reason why rafflesians are so successful is because we have a common brand of ksness. moe says jcs open in feb, rjc opens on jan 14. moe dismisses GEP, raffles starts RA.

what to do. striving for excellence lor.

went out today! with ram and erik and then ruth.

the day started early with a visit to the opticians. who refused to let me get the bump on my eyelid (he offered a scientific name which i cannot rmb and cant be bothered to google) surgically removed. so ill just have to hope it goes away soon. not likely since its been there the whole year.

then i went done to my other doctors to thank him for letting me shadow him for 4 weeks. after which, i headed down to far east to wait for erik and ram. we ran into the house capts and mrs anis and mr choo along the way. far east is rgs' hideout anws. we had chicken rice at our fav place, then went full out shopping xD

at the end of the day:

2 printed tees from punk star
(erik and i both bought so we made $80 and got a membership card :D which i fully intend to use since i think their tees are super nice. sadly i later lost the shop and thus will have to check the directory for it next time. edit: #03-42/46 )
1 pair of flats from mondo
(after ram and ruths insistence that they were nicer than the other pair i was eyeing)
1 i-think-you-can-call-it-a-jacket
2 gelare waffles
(because it was tues and tues is gelare day. the frutti tutti waffle is a ripoff. reminder to self: always get chocolate chip from now onwards)
2 XL RJC skirts
(because the rumours are true and they are out of L skirts and 14, 14.5 blouses, which i wear. but at least i got the skirts so i can alter them THEY ARE SUPERBLY LONG. LIKE BELOW MY KNEE KINDA LONG. plus i found out bibi and baba doesnt make rjc ties, which are from a different vendor, and pe uniforms, which are from another different vendor. what is this, economy distribution?)

thus i am currently very satisfied, although i still need to get a jacket for the new school year. because green on green just doesnt cut it. (and the rj skirt is a horrid, terrible colour)

you know you are old when they start making movies about teenagers that are younger than you are. (ref: ATS. YOUR PROBLEMS ARE NOT REAL PROBLEMS YOU PUNY LITTLE 14 YEAR OLD. HA.)

just kidding. but life moves on despite the fact that no, you havent saved the world yet, nor released a multi-platinum album, nor managed to find a perfectly hot, perfectly sweet boyfriend.
i think i read too many meg cabot books. :D

speaking of books, the few ive read these few days (bday presents. thankyouuu <3) are really good. the last lecture from ruth and ram and the sharper your knife, the less you cry from claire and theo. highly recommended and just the kind of books i love. let me know if you wanna borrow them to burn off the rest of your holidays. xD incidentally, both also implicate that you can be 30 years old and still fulfill your childhood dreams. so it seems i have lots of time xD

im lucky this week. no shifts at all means i can really catch up on sleep, recover from the flu, and spend quality time shopping/hanging out with friends before the first week of "school" begins.

and my second day as a 17 year old draws to a close.

ytd was a really nice day (: i nearly managed to leave work without raising suspicions, but sarah chong (of course) decided to announce my bday before the whole staff before i got away. so i got a real big round of wishes, as well as a 2 free scoops of ice cream sundae xD
after work was the bbq. thank you all the lovelies who came ytd! the bbq was a blast, though i was a little busy trying to make sure everyone got something to eat :D for non-fb users, here are a few photos.

the rabbers! boonie's going to ac (grrr) so its going to be difficult to see her often this year.

me splitting up a watermelon. apparently this is of interest.

17 candles on my favourite cake from my favourite shop: oreo cheescake from swissbake :D

everybody!
411ers ^^

erik, sarah and jingyi popped by after work so they were last. but on the whole i hope everyone had fun! i know i did ^^

thanks also goes out for all the wellwishing smses/ ims/ fb tags etc. love yall :D
and thus now i am exhausted from party+ work+ being sick. will rest early tonight.
